BHARAT Biotech International, which has bagged the contract manufacturing order from the US-based Wyeth Lederle, has rolled out its first batch of haemophilus influenzae B conjugate vaccine (HIB vaccine).

Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, has handed over the first batch of HIB vaccine, constituting 0.5 million doses, to Dr V B Sovani, director, Wyeth Lederle, at the 4-day Biotech India International event held here.

The unique feature about the contract manufacturing project undertaken by Bharat Biotech is that Wyeth has taken the initiative to manufacture HIB vaccine outside the US for the first time, according to the company's press release issued here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Krishna M Ella said "Wyeth's association with us for contract manufacturing is a milestone for the entire biotechnology sector in the country. This inline with our goal to create worldclass quality products through research and new drug development."
