Chennai, July 15: Bharat Biotech today launched a biotech cure, REGEN-D, for treating burn injuries, skin grafts and diabetic footcare problems by enhancing cell growth.

REGEN-D is a recombinant epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) that was developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Institute of Genomics and Integrated Biology (IGIB), a central government institute. REGEN-D's development cost Rs 18 crore and took five years.

Krishna M Ella, chairman and managing director of Bharat Biotech, said that, this is perhaps the first time that rhEGF, which has been around for over two decades, has been cleared by a regulatory authority for a diabetic indication.
