Bharat Biotech launches Hepatitis vaccine

Bangalore, October 30, 2007: Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech has launched Revac-BMCF, a thimerosal free Hepatitis B vaccine, thus becoming the first Indian company to launch a product domestically. A thimerosal-free hepatitis vaccine is preferred choice of pediatricians for birth dose vaccination of newborn babies within 12 hours of birth. “The launch of Revac-Bmcf (thimerosal -free) at an affordable price by Bharat Biotech will also address the needs of parents and members of the medical fraternity who prefer the use of thimerosal-free vaccines,” Bharat Biotech said.

Only seven companies manufacture thimerosal-free vaccines for Hepatitis B, Flu, Hepatitis A, DTaP, DTap+HepB+IPV, Hib, Hib+Hep B, HPV, IPV, MMR, MMR+Varicella, Pneumococcal, Rabies, Typhoid and Yellow Fever vaccines for use in markets worldwide. Bharat Biotech joins this club of vaccine manufacturers in developing, manufacturing and commercializing thimerosal-free vaccines. Several other vaccines in the current and future pipeline of Bharat Biotech will also be developed and commercialized in thimerosal -free presentations.

Bharat Biotech has been manufacturing a Thimerosal-free pediatric vaccine for a MNC on a contract basis for overseas-regulated markets. Having succeeded as the first Indian vaccine manufacturer to eliminate the use of Cesium chloride in Hepatitis B Vaccines, Bharat Biotech is forging ahead with a current portfolio of 10 injectable sterile preparations including seven vaccines.
