Bharat Biotech was established in the year 1996 by
Dr. Krishna M. Ella and
Mrs. Suchitra K. Ella, with a vision to generate innovative technologies with a strong backbone of intellectual capital for the manufacture of unique vaccines and biotherapeutics. Today, Bharat Biotech is a multidimensional biotechnology company specializing in product-oriented research and development leading to the manufacture of vaccines and biotherapeutics with global IPRs associated to its products.
The Bhoomi Pooja (Ground-breaking ceremony) was truly a ground breaking event, not just for Bharat but for Genome Valley, Hyderabad too –
Bharat was the first plant to come up here.
Dr. Krishna Ella, alumnus of the Universities' of Wisconsin and Hawaii had realized his dream of setting up a world class facility in India. As this dream was taking concrete shape, the Ellas with other like minded scientists embarked on a mission to address some of Asia's regional health problems. The first Milestone came in the form of launching the world's first Cesium Chloride free Hepatitis B vaccine,
Revac-B. Revac-B was launched in October 1998.
Bharat's second product was launched in May 2001.
BIOGIT, which was India 's first Probiotic Yeast product to counter diarrhea.
In May 2003 Bharat launched
TYPBAR. The launch of TYPBAR was also a great success for Bharat as it was India's first new generation vaccine against Typhoid. This marked the next Milestone in Bharat Biotech's goal to eradicate tropical diseases in developing countries.
Bharat is also the first Indian company to receive two grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through PATH (Program for Appropriate Technologies in Health) to develop two new vaccines; against Malaria (October 2001) and Rotavirus (June 2002).
