 BIO-OSTEON™ is a viscous solution consisting of a high molecular weight (500,000-730,000 daltons) fraction of purified natural sodium hyaluronate. Sodium Hyaluronate bulk used is manufactured by fermentation process. Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar of the glycosaminoglycan family. It is a long-chain polymer containing repeating disaccharide units of Na-glucuronate-N-acetylglucosamine.
Mode of Action
BIO-OSTEON™ is a viscosupplementation agent and when injected into the joint space provides elasticity and viscosity thus providing adequate lubrication and shock absorbing functions. It also reduces levels of intra-articular inflammatory mediators.
Indications
BIO-OSTEON™ is indicated for the treatment of pain in Osteoarthritis of the knee in patients, who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non- pharmacologic therapy and analgesics.
Dosage and Administration
BIO-OSTEON™ is to be injected once a week; for 3 to 5 weeks (one injection per week) into the affected joint. More than one joint can be treated simultaneously. Depending on the degree of severity of the joint disease, the effect of 5 injections can last for longer than 6 months. Repeated treatment cycles may be advocated depending on the requirement. In case of joint effusion, an aspiration of effusion is warranted. Resting of the joint as well as placing an ice pack and / or the intraarticular administration of corticosteroids is advised. 2-3 days thereafter; the treatment with BIO-OSTEON™ is recommended.
Note: At the time of administration the contents should be at room temperature. Either of two approaches can followed to administer Hyaluronic acid into the intra-articular space.
